It’s hard to believe that summer doesn’t officially start until June 21, because we’ve been in full summer mode since school got out. And the Alabama heat certainly started up early this year! But Thursday is the longest day of the year, marking the summer solstice, and we’ve got plenty we still want to do this summer!
What’s on YOUR summer bucket list?
We hope that a visit to Do It yourself Crafts is high on the list – we’ve got the air conditioning cranked up and we’re keeping it cool for those hot days – and dry when it’s raining.
After you paint, you need ice cream, right? We love our friends at Mountain Brook and Edgewood Creameries. Are you going for Superman, or one of the awesome chocolate flavors? How can you love just one?
If you like to get outdoors, we’re so lucky! Birmingham has the most amazing places to explore – Ruffner Mountain, Railroad Park, Red Mountain Park, just to get started. Turkey Creek Nature Preserve is a hidden gem that is fantastic.
If you want a view of the city, there is no better place than Vulcan! I love the big guy! I’m not gonna lie, though – I don’t do heights very well. But I love to look out over Jones Valley and see all of Birmingham. Do you have a secret spot for watching the fireworks?
Are you a baseball fan? Going to cheer for the Barons is as much a part of summer in Birmingham as peanuts and Cracker Jacks. Regions Field is a gem!
No summer must-do list can be complete without good food, and you can’t find anything better than a trip to the farmer’s market. Pepper Place, East Lake, and J&S Produce are our favorites (but I’m always looking for a new place to get my ‘maters and peaches).
So what did I miss? I love this city and I’m always looking for something new to try! Tell me what I should do next!
