We Are Open, Reservations Available

We take reservations on the hour from 11 am until 4 p.m. Monday-Saturdays and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. The store is open Monday-Saturday 10-6 and Sunday 12-6, and walk-ins are available as space allows the entire time we're open. Reservations have priority beginning an hour after we open daily.

You may make a reservation by emailing diyc.birmingham@gmail.com at least a day before you need it, or by calling 205-868-4346.

As we have re-opened, we are still taking precautions and hope you will understand that all of our decisions are made with the health and safety of our staff and our customers in mind.

Customers who have been vaccinated and are comfortable doing so may be in the shop without a mask. We ask that customers who have not yet been vaccinated continue to wear masks.

The entire staff at DIYC is vaccinated, but they may feel more comfortable to continue to wear a mask.

We are still offering pottery-to-go from the shop, for anyone who is not yet comfortable with painting inside at Do It Yourself Crafts.

Walk-ins are available but reservations receive first priority. If you would like to reserve time to paint, you can do that by either emailing us at least a day before at diyc.birmingham@gmail.com or calling the shop at 205-868-4346.

Summer Camp 2023!

Our camps were so much fun last summer - of COURSE we were going to do it again!

We are offering  sessions, each from Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Week 1 - June 5-9
Week 2 - June 12-16
Week 3 - June 19-26
Week 4 - July 17-21
Week 5 - July 24-28
Week 6 - July 31-August 4

Each week we will have the best time!

Every week, kids will explore a number of fun projects - they will create with clay, paint on pre-formed pottery, keep an art journal, learn fused glass, paint on canvas and board, tie-dye a camp shirt and SO MUCH MORE! We want them to learn and create and make the art that they want, guided along the way to have the best week ever.

This camp is for kids going into second-sixth grades, and we're limiting it to 12 kids per week. It will meet from 9 am until 1 pm Monday-Friday. Send a lunch!

The cost for the camp is $259 (plus tax), which includes all of the projects they will be doing that week! And we have some incredible projects planned!

If your kid loves clay, this is going to be an amazing week - Monday and Friday are all about clay projects! They will even get a chance to throw on the wheel.

Registration for camp will open Wednesday February 1, 2023.

Birthday Parties!

Yes, we are happy to be offering birthday parties again! You can reserve your party on our calendar by selecting your date and the time you'd ike to have the party. We currently offer parties Fridays from 3:30-5; Saturdays 10:30-12, 1-2:30 and 3:30-5; and Sundays 1-2:30 and 3:30-5. If you are interested in a party at a different time, please email us at diyc.birmingham@gmail.com.

Parties are $175 (plus tax) for up to 8 painters. You may add up to an additional 8 painters for $20 each. We allow a maximum of 20 in the room. You should plan for this to be a “drop-off” party.

The party is an hour and a half long, and the first hour includes arrival time, instruction, painting and cleanup. The last half hour is for you to have refreshments. Any snacks must be self-contained, and drinks must be as well.

Projects can include painting pottery plates, bowls, or critters. Pottery must be fired in the kiln and will be ready for the birthday parents to pick up and distribute 1-2 weeks after the party.

Pumpkins and Supply Chain

One of these subjects is fun! The other….less so. But sometimes when we have situations, we also have solutions.   The supply chain is going to continue to affect the pottery industry, as one of the main components of clay, talc, is no longer available in North America. This means that clay bodies have […]

Getting Ready for “Maycember”

Maycember Several years ago, I started referring to May as “Maycember”. For Moms, there might not be a busier month than May. It is relentless and I think it is ironic that Mother’s Day is in the middle of that. (I’ve long said that Mother’s Day ends when breakfast does, because that’s about when I […]
